DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF PERIODIC STRUCTURES AND METAMATERIALS VIA WAVE APPROACHES AND FINITE ELEMENT PROCEDURES

چکیده
Two kinds of numerical approaches able to predict the dynamic response periodic structures and metamaterials are presented. Both them model reduction techniques which can be used obtain functions at a low computational cost. The first kind employs wave finite element (WFE) method for modeling 1D made up complex substructures, e.g., 2D cells arbitrary shapes. Resonant particular cases where substructures possess local resonances — layered involving soft layers heavy layers/core —, in turn lead band gap effects vibration levels. Although well-suited frequency domain, WFE also works subject time-dependent excitations. second (FE) procedures structures, nearly with slightly varying (random) geometrical properties. For like plates disordered resonant cells, results show that vibrational energy is localized around excitation sources.

Wave Motion and Stop-Bands in Pipes with Helical Characteristics Using Wave Finite Element Analysis
Pipes are widely used in many industrial and mechanical applications and devices. Although there are many different constructions according to the specific application and device, these can show helical pattern, such as spiral pipes, wire-reinforced pipes/shells, spring-suspension, and so on. Theoretical modelling of wave propagation provides a prediction about the dynamic behavior, and it is f...
متن کاملAppropriate Loading Techniques in Finite Element Analysis of Underground Structures
Stability of underground structures is assessed by comparing rock strength with induced stresses resulted from ground stresses. Rock mass surrounding the opening may fail either by fracture or excessive deformation caused. Accurate calculation of induced stresses is therefore fundamental in the stability analysis of an opening. Although numerical methods, particularly finite element method, are...

Ultra-short pulse is a promising technology for achieving ultra-high data rate transmission which is required to follow the increased demand of data transport over an optical communication system. Therefore, the propagation of such type of pulses and the effects that it may suffer during its transmission through an optical waveguide has received a great deal of attention in the recent years. We...
متن کاملA Simple Finite Element Procedure for Free Vibration and Buckling Analysis of Cracked Beam-Like Structures
In this study, a novel and very simple finite element procedure is presented for free vibration and buckling analysis of slim beam-like structures damaged by edge cracks. A cracked region of a beam is modeled using a very short element with reduced second moment of area (I). For computing reduced I in a cracked region, the elementary theory of bending of beams and local flexibility approach are...
